I am still amazed how a product that no one wanted the first time will become the obsession of everyones dreams a month later with a different description ! Mike, that's the science of marketing. Creating desire. The economy is based on it. Essentially, it's manipulation of the emotions, disguised as logic or common sense, to stimulate commerce. You know: Bull****ting for profit. If no one did it, we'd still be living in the 19th Century. Not to say there aren't abuses. But the entire advertising industry driving Western Culture is the business of modifying the facts to fit the desired outcome. Nearly 100% of the laws regarding sales, advertising and consumer protection are direct responses to abusive marketing and deceptive advertising. Martyn is only participating in a time honored tradition pioneered by medicine show barkers, institutionalized by Barnum, canonized by Madison Avenue, the mother church of which is Hollywood. He's a huckster. And there are no limit to the number who will fall for his nonsense. "My dear old Uncle Litvack said,-- just before they sprung the trap --, 'You can't cheat an honest man. Never give a sucker and even break, or smarten up a chump.'" --W.C. Fields as Larsen E. Whipsnade 'You Can't Cheat an Honest Man.' |
