The 225 I just won on ebay turns out not to have the factory-supplied
whip, which I'd like to have because I like my radios to be complete and because it might come in handy. Lowe no longer ships to the U.S., and I don't know anybody in G.B. who might ship it for me. Besides, shipping probably would cost twice as much as the antenna. Any ideas for a source? The AC adapter also is missing. What's the best way to prevent a wall wart from creating a hum problem, or should I just get a real power supply (regulated, nonswitching)? Thanks. |

Get a PL-259 and a piece of rod from the hardware store. Break out that old 50 W soldering iron and go nuts. |

Yup, I realized that's all I need to do when I saw a photo of the rear.
But I think I'll pull out one of my old Weller guns. More authentic for a job like this. |

www.ramseykits.com sells whip antennas for $14.95 You might find a
similar antenna from an old junk radio or even tv set whip or rabbit ears antennas. cuhulin |

I've got plenty of whips around from junker radios I've dismantled over
the years, but I was hoping for an exact replacement. |

I remember flattening the centre of a bit of 14 guage solid wire for a home made replacement tip on those things. The gun was handy for one or two solder joints, but after that, soon became a pain. I've preferred the pencil type ever since. I've found around thirty five watts works for everything I do...well, not EVERYTHING, but a propane torch handles those jobs. mike |

Perfect except for the BNC connector, but I might have a BNC
female/PL-259 adapter around. Thanks, Les. |

You want the power supply "wall wart" to be a linear regulator type that uses a transformer and is bypassed for low noise. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

There are wall warts that don't use a transformer to step down the
voltage?? Seems to me the only way to tell whether the output is regulated and bypassed is to check the voltage with varying loads and 'scope the output for noise. I'm starting to think it would be easier just to get one of those little Radio Shack 2 or 3 amp power supplies for $15 or $20 new or at a hamfest for $5. |
