Default JRC NRD 545 DSP or AOR AR7030+

I'd suggest getting the filter daughterboard for the 7030+. You can add
two extra filters without removing any filters from the motherboard.
Javiation installed the filter board and one of the crystal filters,
and still came out as the lowest price. I don't know if you get that
kind of service today, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I use the notch filter in the NB option quite often. I can't say I use
the noise blanker itself very much.

Hello everyone,
I have a choice before me. Which of the two receivers listed above will
provide the best performance? Cost is of no importance and I am not
worried about size or the ergonomics of them. I am fairly intelligent
and can master buttons etc. I aim to hunt for tough DX MW signals.
Ideas, opinions?
Thanks,
Alan

I have no personal experience with the 545 - but a concern I've heard
from many is the audio quality of JRCs in general just isn't very good.

The stock filters that come with the AOR aren't impressive to me - they
seemed to be too wide or too narrow. But they're 455khz filters, so
it's easy to find better replacements.

The 7030+ is the quietest consumer radio I've ever had. It has plenty
of dynamic range. It's also reasonably practical to run it on NIMH
batteries.
