It would be more convenient to have a capacitor that is varied by
simply turning a knob. They're pretty cheap. You can dig them out of
old broken radios.

Do a search for "swl loop antennas" They're fairly easy to construct
and among the best antenna you can use for SW purposes that will not
only pick up signals but reject signals and interferance from unwanted
directions.
