Many people did not hear punk until after 1980, since the 1970's were
cram-full of disco and even many college stations did not play punk until the 1980s. I don't consider much of the new grunge to be eligible for a "punk" label. And even that is still avoided by most stations in favor of every other type of music. If punk had gotten the airplay that (c)rap music does now, I'd sure have been happy.
