I recently heard a ham' say he was putting up a 185-ft tower for his
station. He apparently works for a company that sells and erects towers
for commercial operations, which gives him access to the equipment for a
major project like that.

Ain't that major. The towers come in sections which stack on top of
the previously erected part.

On *TOP* ??

That would explain certain difficulties I've been having with antenna
installations over the last few years....damnnnnnnn....

The cost over runs, the unexplained accidents, the ALWAYS too short guy
wires, the laughing behind my back..it's just possible there may be a
connection here somewhere.

Hey, that *was* my antenna farm for a while!

Glad they put that series back up -- it was removed for a while
because of overreaction to 9/11... it's not that well-built-out a
facility, there aren't may people there, and its away from things.

For V/UHF, these were the antennas we used:

http://www.dim.com/~efricha/DSES/DSE...lly_tipped.jpg
http://www.dim.com/~efricha/DSES/DSE...ower_POV_2.jpg

For HF and below, I used an abandoned 1000 foot v-sloper pair. quite
effective on VLF -- I could pick up NDBs from Dallas there any time of
day -- or, for that matter, all the 14.1 MHz propogation beacons at
once.

As for the above dishes, well, they're run by a bunch of hams now:

http://www.dses.org/

I used to be on the board of that group. If I can find the time again
I may join back.
