The fact is, very few listeners tune in distant stations. And, unless radio takes some positive steps, the stations will cease to exist... and then there will be no interference at all, which might make you happy. Since most of my BCB listening is devoted to DXing, I always confuse the survey folk who call from Beltsville, MD when I state one of my favorite stations is KKOB (770). In the recruiting call, they "ask" about your favorite stations to "warm you up" to survey taking, to show how easy and "fun" it is. They actually do not record ANY of this... it is just a preamble to get you to accept participating in the survey, which is written in a booklet and takes a week. Oh, Arbitron has not been in Beltsville for about 25 years. It moved to Laurel in the late 70's, and then to Columbia over 15 years ago. Not that I care about its programming, but that it's such a tricky catch in San Diego right next to KFMB (760). I have to use sync-detect. I also wonder what weight my opinion carries to the surveyors when I often tell them I'm in the 30+ year old upper class demographic, yet listen to WWV more hours a day than any other station. Since what you say verbally is not recorded, all they are doing is letting you get into thw swing of things. Even if they recorded it, someone else would edit the data and use a lookup tool to determine the validity of the data. FWIW: Commercial stations all suck and the bands would be better off without them. Which is why 94& of all people 12 or older listen to radio each week, and the average person spends around 20 weekly hours doing just that. Our two current FM pirates, FRSD (96.9) and RadioActive (106.9) are the best San Diego has to offer. The folks at 106.5 are aware of RadioActive and have triangulated it and presented a complaint to the FCC with the full data. |
