As part of the DX Radio Community 'we' may not like IBOC
{High Definition} "HD" AM Radio Broadcasting and the
resulting adjacent Channel Noise that it will create;
that will make AM Radio DXing [Distance AM Radio Listening]
very-very-hard-to-do or completely impossible.

For the Owner's of AM Radio Stations IBOC AM Radio is a
valid business decision with respect to 'their' Local
AM Radio Markets and the Local AM Radio Listeners
that 'they' hope to attract as Listeners.

Snip

I don't think that a business model that exchanges current listeners for
the "hope" of attracting new listeners that require them to buy new more
expensive radios is a good plan.

Once everyone is IBOC, the hash heard from any less than ideal location
will probably lead to XM sales. The destruction of the educational
portion of the FM band to religious scam artists is enough to make me
get XM just for travelling. One year's XM fee is like a tank and a half
of George Bush priced gasoline.

Somehow, I thought OPEC had more to do with it.

DE,

The claim is that the High Cost of Fuel is currently due
to the Growing Economies of China and India and their
demand for Energy (oil) to Fuel their Expanding GDP.

So - When you buy something Made in China or India
the Money goes around the World and Buys another
Barrel of Oil on the World Market that drives-up the
Price of Fuel Around the World.

and the money keeps going round and round ~ RHF

Telamon,

Current 'local' Listeners can still use their good old
Analog AM and FM Radios to "Hear" their 'local'
Radio Stations - For 99% of the Local Listeners
Nothing Changes [.]
- - - And with Time Everything Changes.

The DXer Is Not By Definition A "Customer" Within
The Local Listening Market -and- Only Listeners
within the Local Listening Market are Customers.

OBTW - If IBOC like AM-Stereo fails. - For 99%
of the Local Listeners Nothing Changes [.]

have a radio day ~ RHF

HD, as applied to radio, does not mean High Definition. HD is ibiquity's
meaningless marketing term.

Here are three places you won't see much of the term "High Definition".

The president can bring the price down in any number of ways. Of
course, the desire to reduce the price of oil would be required.

How about "High Density"? Seems to describe the way digital radio sounds on
a conventional AM detector and the way complainants characterise the
interference. Some might also say it characterises the way a digital
receiver sounds - certainly not CD quality.

That reminds me that ibiquity's stylized "HD" symbol looks like a recycled
version of the cryptic CH symbol found on the once- common high density 1.44
Mb floppy disks. I'd think a company as aware of marketing as ibiquity
would have been more sensitive to the image of a short digital lifecycle.
