scanner wont work

i saw a bearcat scanner at a flea market and all it shows is the number
6......i tried a manual program and the wx button ..no response.
Anyone know what may be wrong. Speaker works..a hiss. Any info appreciated.
It is
a mobile type scanner and was using a AC power supply..apparently does DC
also.
