Default Sangean says no more shortwave radios

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9&page=1&pp=30

No, Sangean will not release a new Shortwave radio. The closest thing to it
will be our DRM-40, featuring DRM, Digital Radio Mondale, digital shortwave.
The reason being that we have over the past 5 years seen a 50% reduction in
the shortwave category. People unfortunately are not interested in SW.

Actually, the real reason, just like Tecsun/Eton/Grundid is that they
make **** radios.

Well if they aren't interested in shortwave, they sure as hell won't be
interested in DRM.

Not a surprising announcement, and probably overdue considering the
plummeting demand for shortwave radios.

Come to think of it, Sangean has probably just lost market share to its
competition. That's probably where that "50% reduction" comes from.

SS,

Is the 'portable' AM/FM Shortwave Radio Market "Broken" ?

Let see a Sangean ATS-909 AM/FM Shortwave Radio costs about
$240 and the newer Sangean PT-80 Radio costs around $160.

Where as the good old reliable {better} Sony ICF-SW7600GR
AM/FM Shortwave Radio with AM-SYNC cost about $175.

Plus a bunch of newer Chinese (China PRC) made 'portable'
AM/FM Shortwave Radios priced and selling for under $100 . . .

Hey - The 'portable' AM/FM Shortwave Radio Market seams
to be working : Maybe it is Sangean that is Broken ! ~ RHF
