Default Best antenna to cover 500 khz to 999 mhz?

Would a 100 feet dipole cover the whole band between broadcast AM and 999
mhz or would I have to split the range somehow? Is is better to use a dipole
for up to about 50 mhz and a discone for the rest? I am looking for an
omnidirectional pattern. Thanks.
Mike.
