It was a shame when CKZN went to a 24 hr format. When I lived in Montreal, CKZN (Newfoundland) was the dominant station but went off the air for a bit during the local nights. I managed to get readable reception of CKZU during one (very late) summer evening. Now that I live in Edmonton, I can pretty much forget about hearing CKZN as CKZU easily dominates the frequency. I get Cuba 6180 and the Nederlander just below every night . I am about 15 miles from CKZU and can't hear anything even with my bfo. k35454. . They go off the air at sunset. Sometimes they overlap RNW for an hour, and they jam each other quite well. On the other hand, it's pretty much a straight shot over water to here, 120 miles south (Seattle), and right now, (9 AM PDT, Sunday) 6160 is only a noisy S4.
