I just got word that Tom Kneitel has passed away. Tom was a good friend to anyone who loved radio in the 60's, 70's, 80's and early 90's. *My bookshelf is full of books that Tom wrote on all kinds of radio topics. *He walked, talked and breathed radio. * *He was the inspiration behind Popular Communication which grew out of the old CB magazine S9. He did a lot for radio and for those of us who love it as a hobby. I will miss Tom Kneitel! Sorry to hear of Tom's passing. I remember those PopCom issues and his column "Uncle Tom's Corner" in Electronics Illustrated in the '60s. And I too remember the article about Radio Swan. Tom actually operated from Swan Island as KS4CH. He used to live here on Long Island, and he occasionally checked into a scanner net that I ran on 2 meters. His old call was K2AES, but apparently he moved to Florida and became W4XAA. See: http://www.qrz.com/detail/W4XAA http://blogs.rnw.nl/medianetwork/pop...om-kneitel-rip Art, N2AH |
