I suppose it's not legal to build your own scanner.
Maybe it depends on your are laws. However, it's absolutely possible to design something. You must specify what you want to listen. i.e. frequencies and modes. If your target is a low-cost AM/FM scanner, some good design works with a satellite tuner (widely availble from old sat. demodulators). Check this link : http://hem.passagen.se/communication/supertuner.html Otherwise if you plan to design a scanner with very good performances, it's more complex and requires some good knowledges in RF designs. I'm starting a project with a DDS/PLL module able to generate 1 to 2 GHz, 1Hz resolution generator which will be the core of a scanner / spectrum analyzer. Not so simple but performances will be better. However, to listen to the PMR around your location, the tuner versino may give some good enough results. Maybe this is not the correct group to ask but Even thou I have a BC200xlt and a Pro95, I have been playing for a while with the idea of building a scanner that can be controlled from a PC... I know they are commercially available. but that's another story. Also, would it be legal to make one ??? |
