Patrick AFB Area Log - Tuesday 4 Jan 2005
Today I snagged comms from one of the oldest acft types and one of the newest types; I heard a Grumman G-44 Widgeon from the 1940s era, and I heard a Citation new Model 68 "Sovereign." CARBON 21: AT-38C, Moody AFB 479FTG 39FTS Instructor Pilot. 9:30am: Area transition, southbound. [360.7, 348.7, 353.6] LIFTER 37: C-17A, Charleston 437AW 10:00am: Pattern work at Patrick. [133.75, 132.65] RAZOR 33: E-8C JSTARS, Robins AFB 10:14am: Back-end (mission crew) STARGATE directs LANCER F-15s at Avon Park Bombing Range; also interdeck comms with simulated acft RAMBO 31, HOSS 23, and SNAKE 11. Some encrypted comms. 12:56pm: RTB Robins AFB via Orlando-Craig-Alma. [127.475, 126.35, 119.825, 324.65, 395.15, 388.225] LANCER 61 & 71: F-15E, Seymour Johnson AFB 4FW 333FS 10:15am: Works targets at Avon Park Bombing Range under ctrl of STARGATE. Works R-2901A and Placid MOAs. One acft declares IFE and diverts to MacDill. 11:30am: Departs to Tyndall AFB. [349.0, 292.2, 269.25, 300.525, 300.925, 333.3] LN 14: P-3C, Jacksonville NAS VP-45 "Pelicans" 10:30am: Area transition. [273.55, 383.4] KING 55: HC-130P #64-14855, Patrick AFB AFSOC 920RQW 39RQS 11:10am: Touch-and-goes at Patrick. 9:55pm: Local airwork. Something new: using codewords for passing information to Ops. [133.75, 132.65] JOLLY 11: HH-60G Pave Hawk Helo, Patrick AFB 920RQW 301RQS 11:15am; Local training. 6:30pm: Training [133.75] COIL 01: F-15C FL-ANG 125FW 159FS "Jaguars" 11:30am: Area transition, through Whiskey Area 3Xray. [346.25, 267.5] UNID: G-44 Grumman Widgeon 11:33am: Area transition. I would have loved to have gotten an eyeball or camera lens on this one. A Grumman G-44 Widgeon is a light transport amphibious flying boat from the 1940s era. It was used for anti-submarine work and sea patrols. [132.25] TANKER 48 6:53pm: Comms with Oakgrove; probable Orlange Bowl CAP acft. [265.4] REACH 3031: KC-135R #63-8031, MacDill AFB 6AMW 91ARS 8:45pm: Inbound MacDill. Aft aux interphone inop. [311.0] JOLLY 21: HH-60G Pave Hawk Helo, Moody AFB 41RQS 8:45pm: Inbound Patrick. [133.75] OMAHA 58: Customs and Border Patrol Acft 8:58pm; Inbound Palm Beach IAP. [124.6] STAR 1: BREVARD CNTY SO Helo. 11:20pm: Lands Merritt Island A/p, but announces "Landing MacDill" on Advisory Freq. Maybe an ex-USAF driver turned Deputy Sheriff.
