Default external antenna for Sony 7600

I'm strongly considering purchasing a Sony 7600GR, and
since it'll probably be parked at home nearly all of the time
I'm thinking that I might also want to purchase some kind of
external antenna with it to further enhance reception. I've
read just a bit about Sony's AN-LP1, but haven't researched
external antennas much at all really.

Would hooking up an external antenna to this unit help things
much? I know its reception right off the whip has gotten high
praise as it is. Also, if I did purchase a separate antenna,
any suggestions? Passive? Active? Don't bother?

Depends on what kind of stations you're going after.

Take a look at the ten dollar "long wire" (random length) at your local
RadioShack.

#278-758, if I'm reading the web page (ugly) correctly.

But - I would suggest - start out easy. Listen to the powerhouses with the
whip and relax and listen. Once you've gotten your "feet wet", try an
external and see what ya get.

The main thing is: enjoy!

Any sites on the web that could educate me on the use of
antennas? Any help in this area would be most appreciated.

And speaking of reception......I'm still trying to get a good feel
for how much better pickup I'd get going up to something like
the Satellit 800. They can be had for just over 400, but the Sony
unit can be had for practically a third of that. Would the increase
in quality match the increase in price? hmmmmm......

Anyway, thanks for any help in these areas...

Greg
