We're hearing Guyana coming in strong at 0330 UTC on 3291.6 kHz here
in PR. SIO444. Announcer reading obituaries with funeral home music in background and then "important" announcements followed for listeners throughout the country and abroad. For example, So-and-so... we inform you that your mother has died or so-and-so please report tommorrow at magistrate's court, etc. S/off at 0400 |

Some of the funniest I've ever heard were Guyanese and I'm sorry I don't have any on tape. "Your smile can't be pretty if you have cavities. What year did that go down? Anyone know? I was travelling from Georgetown Guyana to Port of Spain Trinidad when the news of the suicides came up. November 17/18 1978 was the date. Back in Georgetown, after Jonestown, availability of fruits of vegetables plummetted. Jonestown had been a big supplier to the markets. In Geo'twn very little was actually heard about Jonestown until after the deaths. Never heard of any broadcasts from Jonestown. -- -UA |

Thanks for the reply. I was twelve when it happened then. That was my first real official scare on the world scene that kind of struck home. I bet 'it was the talk' on the shortwave bands for the next couple of weeks after it happened and everything unfolded. :-( ~*~*Monitoring The AirWaves~*~ *****GO BEARCATS***** Hammarlund HQ129X /Heathkit Q Multiplier Hammarlund HQ140X Multiple GE P-780's(GREAT BCB Radios) RCA Victor *Strato- World* RCA Victor RJC77W-K(Walnut Grain) 1942 Zenith Wave Magnet 6G 601M Cathedral/ Ross#2311/Rhapsody-MultiBand DX100/394/*SUPER*398/399/402 OMGS Transistor Eight/Realistic 12-1451 Henry Kloss Model One/Bell+Howell ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Alpha Delta DX Sloper 57ft. 600ft. 12AWG.
