CCTV Signal Interrupted by News of Communist Party Withdrawals By Li Dan and Liu Dingyi The Epoch Times Jul 07, 2005 The withdrawals and defections from the Chinese Communist Party, influenced by the "Nine Commentaries," have astounded overseas Chinese. But within China the CCP has maintained strict censorship. This is a car in Los Angeles broadcasting the "Nine Commentaries" along with information about Party withdrawals. (The Epoch Times) Once again, Mainland China's news blockade has been challenged. According to sources in China, around 8:44 p.m. on the night of July 3rd the Chinese Central Television (CCTV) station's signal was interrupted by news of the "Nine Commentaries" and withdrawals from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The CCP-controlled media has blocked all information about the "Nine Commentaries" and withdrawals from reaching the general populace. Wide Scale Broadcast Interruption According to the Associated Press (AP), the spokesperson for APT Satellite Company Limited, Hong Kong (APT), said that the broadcast interrupted 25 television channels, including 13 China Central News TV channels and 12 provincial channels. The spokesperson said that they could not find the source of the interrupting signal. The regions included Shanghai city, Shenzhen city, Guangdong, Hunan, Yunnan, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, and Zhejiang provinces. The spokesperson said that the interruption was supposed to be an hour long, but only 14.5 minutes of footage were actually shown. The spokesperson refused to reveal the contents of the broadcast. The official Chinese media also declined to reveal the contents of the broadcast. However, reports criticized "Falun Gong" for interrupting the signal. According to a reader's report from the Northwestern region of China, "Around 9:30 p.m. on the evening of July 3rd, I was watching the Gansu provincial channel, when it suddenly changed to a special news program. There was a video of parades and lectures. The broadcast appeared to be celebrating the withdrawals from the CCP. It said that more than two million people have already withdrawn from the Party. It also reported on overseas defectors and about a list of 1,000 Communist spies in Australia that one defector gave either the Australian or American the government." "After this introduction, calls to quit the Chinese Communist Party came on the screen. One caption said: 'Heaven will Punish the CCP, Withdrawing from the CCP will Guarantee Your Safety.' I could not see the details of the sentence. However, when the screen settled, the caption was very clear: 'Only Without the Communist Party, Can There Be a New China.' This went on for at least two minutes, and then the screen went black." According to the reader, she changed the channel more than 10 times but every channel was black, which lasted until 10:00 p.m. The reader said: "The Mainland Chinese audience who saw the broadcast were very excited. Although many people were extremely happy, they were also afraid, and would only discuss it in private. If there were more such broadcasts, people would not be afraid anymore." The CCP has always censored news on the "Nine Commentaries" and the great wave of people denouncing their membership from the CCP with 2.8 million withdrawals to date. The CCP has established a strict information blockade. For international events that the government does not want its citizens to know about, like the large-scale 2003 march in Hong Kong, government officials cut the stories from the international channels broadcasting it. According to previous reports, the editor for political law at The World Economic Herald, Mr. Zhang Weiguo believes that the broadcast interruption was in reaction to the Chinese media's suppression of freedom. The Chinese government is the roots of all its own problems, he believes. The broadcast interruption is a breakthrough for anyone who wants to bring freedom back into Chinese news. Advanced technology is the new weapon in the battle a gainst the domination and control of the Communist government. Mr. Zhang Weiguo believes that control over public opinion is imperative for the CCP's ability to pursue its interests. The government manipulates or manufactures "public opinion" to demoralize and repress the population. Thus, the people have tried many ways to topple their dominating control. The renowned writer Hu Ping believes that there is lawlessness only when all people are fully complying with the law. "When people have been denied their freedom of speech, a television broadcast interruption is necessary and lawful." -------------- WOW !!!!! |
