I purchased a nice aluminum case at a hamfest recently and it has a solid piece
of gray foam in it. I would like to neatly cut out the shapes of my Bird 43 wattmeter and MFJ 259B in the foam. Can someone give me a clue as the best way to do this? Thanks RS |

RS,
I use a long, thin kitchen knife with a serrated cutting edge. The serrations are gently rounded, rather than being pointy. I use long, slow cutting strokes and take my time to get a smooth cut. I sometimes mark the cut lines with a permanent marker, such as a "Sharpie". Most of the time, I "eyeball" the cut lines. The key is to use a very sharp cutting tool that's long enough to make one smooth cut through the foam. FWIW... 73, Dean K5DH In article , says... Best method is an electric carving knife. Goes through foam very smoothly.

My boy uses a hot knife, something sold at model railroad hobby shops to cut
styrofoam. Powered by 110 AC, looks like a small handsaw. Blade gets really hot, |

Some kinds of foam emit VERY toxic fumes when you heat 'em. mike -- Return address is VALID. Wanted, 12.1" LCD for Gateway Solo 5300. Samsung LT121SU-121 Wanted GPIB Card for PC.
