On mine, bot hthe amp and the tuner/pre-amp section had their own power supplies. However, you had to plug the amp's AC plug into a socket on the back of the tuner section. The audio signal was through an RCA-tipped cable. That's how you would get the amp and the tuner to come on as a unit. There were no switches on the amp itself, so if you were to plug that thing into a regular lightsocket, it would come on and stay on until you pulled the plug out of the socket.
