Ugh, spent monday on a SAR event, soaked the ft-50, and now it's not
wanting to work for me. Repair issues aside, it has served me well, and I'm looking for a weather proof replacement. VX-6R looks like the one, thought I'd throw it out here before hitting the web and making a purchase. Besides the yaesu/vertex line, any other manufactures making a decent dualband (weather resistance included?) I didnt submerse the ft-50...but it got just as wet, bushwhacking through freshly rained upon weeds 5 feet tall and better. Well, I'll check back here, and the email, now it's off to the web to look for myself. Thanks John KC8SKE |

I don't think any exist. All that I have seen do fine until the
moisture gets in, then it can't get out! The water becomes trapped inside and migrates throughout the radio wreaking havoc. It is best to keep the radio in an inside pocket and or in a clear baggie to protect it and inspect regularly for moisture. Keep several in case you have to replace the baggie. If the radio ever gets wet, immediately remove the battery and disassemble the housing when practical to inspect for intrusion. ac6tk http://tekstuff.freespaces.com "John P Vassel" wrote in message . 97.142...
