On another "radio-related" newsgroup, an amateur asks:

"Subject: 80 meter European and Russian SSB frequencies?

Where is a list of the freq allocations for DX on 80m ssb?"

From the worlds greatest dxer, I was under the impression that we
weren't permitted to know the amateur allocations of other countries.
We must blindly tune up and down the bands hoping that we snag a
contact with a needed country. Having knowledge of where to tune is
forbidden.

1. I'll point out for a fourth, fifth or sixth time, I've never claimed
to be the world's greatest DXer--but I thank you for the compliment.

You assume I was talking about you?

Yes, as a matter of fact I do. You've written the same thing a number
of times and we have certainly discussed the amateur allocations of
other countries. If you have a correction to make, please do so.

Suit yourself. You're not the world's greatest DXer, merely well
known.

I believe I've pointed that out each time you or Len has used the
"World's Greatest DXer" tag as a reference to me. Yet both of you
continue to make the same mistake over and over. Is it because neither
of you is capable of learning or because it is an attempt to take a
cheap shot at me?

Oh, gee. You sure don't mind dealing in cheap shots until one comes
your way.

Toughen up a little, whydoncha?

I don't believe either of you is very well known in DXing.

Sorry, but it was not a "career goal" of mine.

2. Your statement is not only incorrect, it is deliberately so. Not
being required to know the amateur allocations of foreign countries is
nothing at all like not being permitted to know. Do you know what they
call a person who tells a deliberate untruth?

Please allow me to confer with Steve on this one.

I didn't think you knew the answer.

"Steve."

I'm sorry. That is incorrect. "William", "Brian" or "liar" would have
been an acceptable response. Thanks for playing.

Oh, my! I think you just called me a liar.

Get in line, I don't think Steve's done yet. And bring your lunch.

Or he just hangs out and waits for the spots to roll in, or works the
nets.

Your DXploits are legend.

Small world, so are yours.

That's right. Anyone can find out quite a bit about them by doing a
Google search. It's odd that when I did the same for yours, nuttin'
came up except one log entry from a Swede during the time you were in
KH2-land.
I'm pretty sure that there's nothing a guy like you could learn from me.

I wouldn't say that. I could probably learn something amateur radio
related from you, maybe even a lot.

I just don't like your accusations or your approach.

My accusations? The accusation where I corrected your use of the term
"World's Greatest DXer"? The accusation where I've told you that I'm
not responsible for where foreign hams operate, only for where I
operate? Maybe it was the accusation that because you continue to tell
deliberate untruths, that you're a liar.

I educated you with respect to operating amateur radio in a location
without a government.

Later you say I didn't.

Work France on 6 lately?

No, "William", I haven't.

Phew!

I note your relief. Why would anyone I work on 6 meters or any other
band be of concern to you?

You have a reputation for working out-of-banders.

I did work Iowa, Illinois, Michigan,
Wisconsin and Minnesota among other states on 2m SSB a few evenings
back. I didn't bother to check to see if everyone was operating where
he is permitted to be.

Shouldn't have been a problem, them being domestic and bound by the
same privs you are (with the exception of the Novice.

Ah, but without my checking, isn't it quite possible that some scofflaw
Novice sneaked onto the 2m band for a quick QSO?

Scofflaw Novices!

Isn't your position
that I should be concerned enough to check these things?

If one had an obvious Novice callsign, such as "WNx...," you might
have to wonder. Often people volunteer what their amateur "status"
is, such as "I'm a Novice." That is another decent clue. Or, you
might be told that they are operating out of band.

The real problem occurs when you know they are out of band, but just
keep right on collecting those greenstamps.

Work any
"out-of-the-box WN-prefix Extras?").

I have no idea.

I just made sure that I was where I was
permitted to be.

That's the best policy.

I've been telling you that for some time now.

Dave K8MN

Congrats. It's a good first step.
