Kevin,
What country are you in? If your some place here in the United States
trying to get by with out trunking is going to limit what will be
received on your scanner radio .

If you can get by with out trunking ,then get a Icom IC R5,
or if you can find one used or still in stock new, a Icom IC R-2
They look like FRS, a cell phone or beeper and run on two (2) AA
batteries.

Try one of the other small communications receivers. Like the
Yaesu VR-120 Communications Receive or
Alinco DJ-X3, this is a little big like a walkie talkie!

Get the software and programming cable.

Or purchase a trunk tracker radio scanner, hang it inside your cloths!
Then us a cell phone ear bud to listen!

Look to see if the radio has computer programming capabilities and get
the programming cable
and software, for what ever radio you decide on. Down load the manual to

see if the radio will meet your needs and work in your area..

Hi,

I am an armature scanner enthusiast. I would like to know is there a
scanner that looks like a simple radio, like SONY ICF radio.
Because I noticed that all the handheld scanners looks like a
walkitalki unit. For me it is a problem because it creates attention
when seen by others and officers.
Please help me find a scanner with a body looking like a radio.
