You don't need to sink as low as those rigs you are mentioning. For 300
bucks you can pick up a Kenwood TS-530SE or an Icom IC-730 or possibly a 735
or something along those lines.

Those do not have analog dials but are probably as good as you arer going to
find in bang for your buck. Otherwise, you can probably find a decent Drake
TR-4c. That was a good rig and it has the analog setup you like.
