I think the most beneficial part of learning Morse code at 13 wpm or
faster is the pride in the accomplishment. 5 wpm is nothing. It took
me two weeks to go from start to passing my code test, and I don't
even like Morse code. When I passed my 13 wpm test I was proud of my
ham license, because I had to work for it. There is no pride in being
a CB'er, because you don't have to earn it.
I'd like to see the code requirement go back to 13 wpm for HF
access. It separates those that want to be hams from those that just
think they want to be hams.
