Depends on what you need in a receiver. SSB? Ppm stability? Variable
bandwidth? Or would a scanner that covers the frequency and receives
AM and FM be enough?

But any receiver that can be controlled with software can be
controlled over your LAN - just install UltraVNC
http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/ on the computer the receiver is
connected to, and the UltraVNC client on the computer you want to use
for control and you can control it with the software you normally use
for controlling that receiver locally. (You'll have to use something
else - I use Winamp with the Oddcast plugin and Icecast - to remote
the audio.)
