Sacrificing CHOICE and creating QRM. Such a deal!

The couple thousand people in the US who actually listen to AM DX don't
really count, as far as the radio stations themselves are concerned.
Personally, I'd rather have clear local reception 24/7 than be able to catch
WLW from Cincinnati every now and then. Besides, I can listen WLW any time
I want on the net.

Yes, this sucks in a way. I have dozens of analog radios, from 1935 tube
antiques (including an E. H. Scott Allwave 23 in a Tasman cabinet that I
have had since about 1970) up through 1970s Grundig Satellit 2100, Panasonic
RF-2200, a Drake R8, and a Grundig S-800, and loads of small portables and
antique 50s/60s transistor sets. Potentially, all of these could be made
useless on AM.

However, I really don't think HD AM will take over. Hell, we are getting a
brand new, 50,000 watt sports/talk AM station here in 3 weeks! 1010 on the
dial for you AM DXers! But if the choice is no free local radio because
everything has moved to subscription satellite radio (because it's digital),
then I vote for local, free, digital, HD radio. And I will vote with my
dollars.
