I realize that this is a very simple observation, but I wonder if
we aren't holding some sort of false hope for want to be SWLs
located in the heart of a noisy city. In both this group and via
Email I have offered advice to help mitigate their local noise,
but I suspect I am not helping them as much as I once thought.
Any comments?
Are you helping others? It would be up to those who have been helped to
indicate their success. A healthy discussion of antennas and noise
abatement is probably beneficial to many.
For those wanting to listen to SW broadcasts in a noisy environment your
posts point out that there are some things that can be done to improve
reception. However, the solutions are not necessarily universal, some
things may provide no apparent improvement. Folks in problem reception
areas may have to try several different things to improve reception. As
more information is posted, more people can benefit.
If your efforts help more people enjoy SW listening, then your posts are
worthwhile. It may also generate interest in going to quieter areas for SW
listening. This be a way for folks too increase their enjoyment of the
hobby.
Folks living in noisy areas should recognize that they may not get perfect
reception, but there are many things they can try to improve their
reception.
Keep up your efforts, your posts are worthwhile.
Yeah, maybe for like two people.
All indications I have from reading the news group is that nobody
listens to what I post about antennas. If I get a response it's usually
an argument that they tried a similar thing and it was no better to the
antenna I describes works different than theory. Looks like it's pretty
much a waste of time.
Next week someone will post the same question and other people will
respond with the same wrong answers.
If it's at all technical you be lucky if one person out there reading
the news group that gets it. I used to think I was disseminating
information in this news group. Now I know better.
