I'm still waiting for a link for a 2nd generation HD radio from you in
quotes or did you forget?
The receivers coming later this year are third generation.
And I say they would be 2nd generation because all the radios out there
in the market are 1st generation. So if you could point out a 2nd
generation radio design it would be helpful.
No, they are not all first generation. Everything up to the BA Receptof HD
was first generation, and the stuff of the last two years is second
generation.
There were the prototypes with the demodulation part run on a card in a
computer. Then the 1st generation radios actually sold to the public
have general purpose DSP chips with all the supports parts needed to
adapt it to this specific IBOC application. The next generation will
have parts designed for IBOC and as such will have at least some degree
of optimization for this specific application. The parts count should
reduce and the required power should reduce. Hopefully performance will
improve and there will be more features provided.
The first generation is a description of the pre-FCC authorization
receivers. Second generation is what is out now, and thirds is what you will
see in Q3 to Q4.
