Here is some "hep"

Palomar Electronics Corporation was a manufacturer of CB linear amplifiers
in the 1960's and 1970's that used sweep tubes (now expensive) or bipolar RF
transistors.

These units were illegal for usage on CB (27 MHz/11 meters) ... and NOT
designed for the amateur radio service (10 meters). They sold hundreds of
thousands of these units -- most are in garages, basements or tossed in junk
with 8-track tape units.

The company went out of business around 1980. Since that time many builders
and manufacturers in southwest USA and Mexico completely copied the earlier
Palomar design and sold these through truck stops and other CB merchants.

If you are just starting out in Ham radio, its not a good place to start.
