IBOC : The Path To HD-Radio Acceptance and Use . . .

Phase One of IBOC HD-Radio Implementation :
{Years 1~5}
Mixture of Analog and IBOC Digital Broadcasters
with very few HD-Radio Receivers :
The Analog Radio Listeners* Notice "The Hash/Buzz"
* Radio Listening is both Local and Distant Radio
Station Listening.
* .
Phase Two of IBOC HD-Radio Implementation :
{Years 6~10}
Still a Mixture of Analog and IBOC Digital Broadcasters
with a mixture of *Analog and HD-Radio Receivers :
Still the Analog Radio Listeners* Notice "The Hash/Buzz"
-but- HD-Radio Listeners Using HD-Radios Do Not
Hear "The Hash/Buzz"
* Radio Listening is mostly now Local still with some
Distant Radio Station Listening.
* .
Phase Three of IBOC HD-Radio Implementation :
{Years 11~15}
Mostly IBOC Digital Broadcasters with some Analog
and mostly HD-Radio Receivers with some Analog :
Majority is now HD Radio Listeners* Who Are Now
Using HD-Radios and Do Not Hear "The Hash/Buzz"
-and- There still is a few Analog Radio Listeners who still
Notice "The Hash/Buzz" when they do not Listen 'Local'
* Radio Listening is now almost all 'Local' with very little
Distant Radio Station Listening.

NOTE : The AM/FM Radio Station Business Model
is Built-On "Local" Advertising -and- IBOC Forces All
Radio Listening To Be "Local" and Reduces Distant
Radio Listening ~translation~ IBOC Is Good Business.

-note- A Brokered Radio Program on 500 Radio Stations
with an 800# a/o Website is Still "Local" Advertising :
That is simply scaled-up by the means of distribution
to a nation-wide 'localized' market.

and that is the way 'i' see it ~ RHF

I saw the prelude to the entire IBOC debacle from the inside.

IBOC is a brazen scam.

Its primary purpose -- the purpose for which it was designed -- was
to preserve the vast signal superiority of the higher-power FM
stations over their lower-power FM, and AM, competitors. It was
designed specifically to _prevent_, as much as possible, any
increase in relative signal quality or coverage on the part of the
lower power and AM licensees that might otherwise have occurred.

In achieving this goal, IBOC has been quite successful.

It has, however, been totally unsuccessful in achieving any of its
other highly-touted goals.

In the process, it has ruined reception for many thousands of
listeners who wanted to hear some of the weaker, but formerly
perfectly listenable, stations.

The failure (and fraudulent nature) of IBOC, and the earlier failure
of AM stereo (and the frauds and self-deception that plagued that
debacle, too), are symptomatic of the steep decline of what used to
be the most technically advanced society on Earth.

With every good wish,

Kevin Alfred Strom.
