Thanks, Guys - these are fine ideas. I checked inside last night; the
filter in question is hard-soldered into the CB; if it were just
inserted, I guess I could have just plopped another similar filter I
have (15 kHz) into place to try it out.
I've also already spoken with Kiwa, and this morning I'll give Icom a
call.

I've had some interaction with ICOM in Bellevue. They do nice
work, and they're pretty quick, depending on workload. The first
time, there was a miscommunication, apparently, and they didn't to
the second part of the project I sent them. So you need to be very
clear about your symptoms and your expectations.
In my case, they did make it right, however. And the second radio
I sent to them, came back to me looking and operating like new.
I have no hesitation about sending a rig to them now, or in the
future.
