Default Mod Wanted: Icom 706 on 11 meters

I know this will bring a lot of flak but, I'll explain why I want to do
this.

I'm looking for a way to open up my 706 to 11 meters (a.k.a. Citizens Band)
because the local snow plowers in the area use that band and I work for
them. I've got my 706's mounted in my trucks and I'd rather not mount a CB
radio and another antenna in the trucks.

Drop me an e-mail if you can and let me know if you've ever done this mod.

If my scanner would cover this band, that would be fine but, my mobile
scanners don't cover CB..

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was under the impression the 706 has a general coverage HF receiver,
which should cover 11 meters.

Otherwise, for transmit, the 60 meter mod for the 706 may also cover
other frequenies. You'll, of course, want to crank your 706 down to CB
power levels. Still, it won't be type-accepted or whatever for 11
meters, so it probably won't be legal. Maybe look at getting a couple
of ratshack cb HTs?

Won't ever be legal, but if you do a search on the internet you'll find out how
to do it (if it's doable which I'm sure it is)..most of these radios are mars
capable which will open up the transmit to general coverage..usually with the
snip of a diode..

Good luck es 73's

Paul;

Just apply the mod to open the radio. Do not transmit, it will but
don't. Nothing special is needed to do the mod except steady hands and a
fine soldering iron and pincers.

It doesn't seem quite fair. An ordinary citizen can run CB super power
with little fear of prosecution. OTOH, a ham is likely to lose his
ham license for perfectly legal operation except for type acceptance.

Particularly since the 5WPM code and pre-published multiple choice exams.
Takes very little more effort to become an Extra than to become a CBer.

Dick Bash led us all straight to radio hell...

Gee, Cecil, you're right. Lets just pick the rules
we want to obey and forget the rest. That ought to
be okay...
