Consumer amateur doesn't know that there is difference -- PCTEL, like many
mfg. is slowly eliminating antennas below 440 MHz -- in favor of 800 MHz and
higher.

Exactly right. The A.S. patent was strong and forced "would be imitators" to
come up with 1/4 wave designs that gave the on-glass concept a bad name.
