I bought a rotor and controller at a hamfest.
It is a Cornel Dublier Electronics H3/CD44 Series 2.
The position indicator doesn't move with rotation,
the indicator needle is almost full scale and can be moved
with the calibration adjustment.
I suspect the problem is in the rotor.
I need a description of operation, to try and troubleshoot the unit.
The function of the 8 connections would help.
A schematic would be even better.

Thanks, Mike

Once you have the schematic you will be able to troubleshoot the
problem easily. It is most likely the wirewound pot in the rotator
mechanism. I simply cleaned mine for years of continued good operation.
Be careful when you open the rotator though -- do it over a baking pan
or something with a lip on it as some bearings are likely to fall out.
They are easy to set back during reassembly.

Thanks Irv, now you tell me about the baking pan :-)
I now have it working. When I opened the controller, I first noticed a radio
shack
transformer that cost $1.98, pretty old, it would probably cost $9.00 now. I
assumed
it must have worked with the transformer at some point. Then I noticed the
full scale
trimpot was a pot/switch combo with the switch part inoperative. But both of
these
where doing what they should do though, so I continued and found a wire
connected where
it shouldn't be. I cut that wire and made the connection to the proper wire.
The unit works fine.
I thought I'd check the lubrication before I installed the rotor. Two hours
later, after picking
up ball bearings, learning how to get the bell properly aligned with the
wiper driver, getting
the ring gear aligned right, etc. The lube was good.
Well, I now know more about controllers and rotors than I did yesterday.
Thanks, Mike
