I guess I was thinking that if AT&T withdrew their support of usenet, it wouldn't be long until its lack of validation (usenet) by such a famous leader in communications would encourage more and mother smaller companies to follow suit, eventually leading to a lack of use and accreditation, socially. Ed, AJ4PJ I've seen various ISP's chunk my usenet for quite a while. First it was the old dial up I used to use.. Same ole story.. Not many people use it they claim.. The latest was Comcast.. They dumped usenet about a year ago I think.. The number of ISP's carrying usenet is dwindling fast. I've been using Google groups since the time that my dial up shut it down.. Many think I've probably lost my mind, but I've grown to actually prefer it over the usual usenet readers. I see the whole thread at once, and don't have to click each message to read em.. Also.. it's the archive.. So say someone started a thread in 1997 titled "my tower fell over and crushed my car", and then someone else came along in 2009 with the same title, I'll see both of them. If Google dumps usenet, I'll probably just quit using it if I can't find any other free web sites. Most of the others I see have been fairly lousy.. IE: take days to refresh, etc.. Google has been fairly instant refresh for quite a while unless something is broke. |
