It's not the most efficient in my experience (which is limited with respect to these) but it seems to work well enough if you have a decent repeater system that is the target. One plus is that you can usually get most of the half wave above the roofline. For all around flexibility I still like the simple quarter wave vertical for 2m FM. Enough high angle for metro downtown use, but that involves either holes or magnets. tom K0TAR sorry...my mistake. this is an HF whip antenna Please clarify then - do you want to avoid cutting the whip, or the car? would prefer not cutting the car. on my old honda CRV i had a piece of angled aluminim i bolted to the spare tire mount. the element is protrusion free, unfortunately, so there's nothing to hang anything on tom K0TAR |

Don't know your car, but does it have a hitch?, if it does you can make a
mount & bolt it to the hitch or where the hitch is bolted...Go to some of the screwdriver dealers like High Sierra & look at all the mounts on many vehicles to give you an idea...Howard K0ACF "bpuharic" wrote in message news On Sun, 09 Jan 2011 11:52:35 -0600, joe wrote: bpuharic wrote: Just got a honda element...any way to put a whip on it w/o cutting it? thanks much My older Element had plastic covers over the mounts for the roof rack. Perhaps you can mount the antenna to the same brackets. this one doesnt have a roof rack, unfortunately. they thought of eveything! |

Some years back, I went to a welding shop and asked them to weld a steel strap to the car for an antenna mount. They found a spot on the left rear where the strap would stick out and hold a mobile antenna. The shop rounded the edges on the part of the strap sticking out, and drilled a hole in the strap for the insulated whip connector. It worked out great. --Wayne W5GIE |

Just got a honda element...any way to put a whip on it w/o cutting it? thanks much I drilled a hole in the ceneter of the roof of my wifes Nissan. Two years later traded it in. I removed the antenna mount and plugged it with a snap in rubber plug. No effect on resale value. Jimmie |
