It's not the most efficient in my experience (which is limited with respect to these) but it seems to work well enough if you have a decent repeater system that is the target. One plus is that you can usually get most of the half wave above the roofline. For all around flexibility I still like the simple quarter wave vertical for 2m FM. Enough high angle for metro downtown use, but that involves either holes or magnets. tom K0TAR I saw a note from a guy who "cooked" part of his window with the thru- the-glass approach. He said the film sandwiched in the safety glass darkened from being heated. As I recall, he was using 50 watts. This stuff is all trade-offs, eh? Never heard of that before, and I know lots of people who've used them over the 30+ year period they've been around. Including myself. I'd like to see pictures. And also know how much power the guy was sending to an antenna system rated for a specific number of watts. tom K0TAR |
