Just remember that a half-square is a bi-directional antenna
and would need to be rotated to cover both the West Coast
and Europe with its highest gain. If you aimed the half-square
toward Europe, the other major lobe would be aimed at Southern
Mexico. If you aimed it toward Los Angeles, the other major lobe
would be aimed at West Africa.
