With a good tuner you should be able to run on all the HF bands. I have found, in the past, that a inverted L doesn't work very well without ground radials. I experimented with one that was fed at ground level, traveled up for 25 feet, headed east to a tree branch, and then south to another tree branch. Total length was about 96 feet. I first tried to run with only a ground rod but couldn't get a stable match. Then I started to add ground radials. They were just random lengths of wire, around 25 feet long, buried about 1 or 2 inched in the ground. As I added radials the matching became more stable and at around 5 radials everything matched up great and the antenna worked great. I live in the desert so my ground conditions are different than yours, but you still may need the radials. Martin -- Martin E. Meserve http://www.k7mem.150m.com |
