Did you use the old red rubber tubes? They stretched more than the
modern rubber tubes.

Yep, that's what I used during WWII and after. When I was a
teenager, I learned about surgical tubing and 3/4" plywood.
I finally sprung for a $2 Whammo sling shot but someone stole it.

I don't know what they used in the US but when I was a kid in Ethiopia, the
red rubber tubes were the prefered ones. Pirrelli, as I remember.
