Looking for any information on this early Hy-gain antenna with the large
black traps. Need the coax feed and matching configuration to the driven element and any antenna assembly information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Larry |

Well, I bought one of them in 1959, and in the original configuration IIRC, it had 3 gamma matches, one for each band.
When HyGain supplied the replacement blue potted traps because all the black jobbies filled up with water, they changed to a direct feed with a "Beta match" which is a hairpin of aluminum wire to mostly provide DC continuity between the terminals. They recommend a 6 or 8 turn coil in the coax to act as a current mode Balun. I do not have the element dimensions for the old style traps or the gamma matches. I've looked for it several times recently, and it eludes my finding it. BTW, mine has been in continuous use since 1960 with the blue traps. The center insulators on the driven element failed, as most of HyGain's plastic tended to do, so I redesigned them to use some industrial grade fiberglass, and all is well. -- Crazy George Remove N O and S P A M imbedded in return address "Larry Louie" wrote in message ...
