Yes, I suspect that mine is relying on "stray capacatance" and it is not
sufficient--and--that is why I experience that "plunge into darkness" of the REF LED at 1:1--and NOT a smooth adjustment and indication... (just guessing) Anyway, those capacitors are VERY small ~3pf, and as Cecil was so kind to point out to me, in an email, a twisted pair of high-pot enameled wires would, most likely, suffice--keeping with my "cheap and simple" design.... I can simply chuck another of my junkbox toroids in for the rf choke...
