![]() In reference to the discussion about the fellow wanting to run several antennas with seperate ladder lines, is it ok to terminate the ladder line with a 4:1 balun and the run the coax from the balun to the tuner? I also want to run at least two center fed zepp type antennas fed with ladder line. Can I just terminate the ladder lines outside with a 4:1 balun on each and run two coax feed lines to an antenna switch inside the house? I hope I am making myself clear on this. Thanks Steve W4SEF |

Yes and Yes.

Hi Fritts:
Yes you can do that, why not? I would try and keep the coax run as short as possible because with a center feed zepp on most frequencies the SWR on the coax will be very high and the extra loss from the high SWR will eat up some of you power. -- John Passaneau State College Pa. ![]() Because you cant run 50 ohm output to a 450 ohm impedeance........... thanks to all who answered Steve On Fri, 05 Aug 2005 20:34:23 -0500, Cecil Moore wrote: S.Fritts wrote: In reference to the discussion about the fellow wanting to run several antennas with seperate ladder lines, is it ok to terminate the ladder line with a 4:1 balun and the run the coax from the balun to the tuner? Because you cant run 50 ohm output to a 450 ohm impedeance........... I guess I asked the wrong question. Why do you think you are dealing with a 450 ohm impedance? It's impossible to encounter a 450 ohm impedance on a Z0=450 ohm transmission line with reflections and one doesn't often encounter an antenna with a 450 ohm feedpoint impedance. Sure you can, I do it every time I get on the air.

Because you cant run 50 ohm output to a 450 ohm impedeance........... The chances of your balun seeing a 450-ohm impedance in the configuration you are planing to use is right up there with wining the state lottery. What is important is the balun's choking impedance (that's the one that blocks the common mode current) not its differential impedance. I suggest you get a copy of TL Details http://www.qsl.net/ac6la/tldetails.html and check out just how much variation in impedance you balun will be seeing. 73, Danny, K6MHE email: k6mheatarrldotnet http://users.adelphia.net/~k6mhe/ |

What's the difference in those two? Bob k5qwg |
