Default How to test a balun?

Terminate with a 50 ohm resistor and check it with an antenna noise bridge.

Hi Group, I have a balun that I believe is fried. Silly me, I tried to

load
up my 20 meter dipole on 40 meters with my amplifier. There was a flicker

on
the SWR meter then the SWR shot up to infinity. I'm sure I zapped the

balun,
but am curious to know if there's a way to test one, other than by
connecting it to another set of wires.

Also, I'd like to cut the thing open and see what's inside. It's one of

the
typical kind that's in a 1 3/4" PVC tube with end caps. Is it possible to
cut these things open or are these things potted with some compond on the
inside?

Thanks for any advice and 73 to all,
