This is probably a very foolish question but I need an answer: What is the difference between round emblem and wide emblem Collins gear? The most significant difference is in the KWM-2 transceiver. The round-emblem type, which appeared around 1969, used two plug-in relays for T/R switching, whereas the earlier winged-emblem KWM-2 used telephone style relays. If a old-style relay fails, it can be a major headache trying to wire in the replacement. The very newest KWM-2 and KWM-2A's used teflon wiring instead of vinyl insulation. The vinyl insulation is easy to scorch if your soldering skills aren't first-rate. 73, Ed Knobloch |
