Back to DEERFIELD!!!!

W1RC, K1TWF and N1IWV invite ALL radio enthusiasts to attend the
Spring 2007 NEAR-Fest at Deerfield on Friday May 4th and Saturday May
5th 2007! The Deerfield (NH) Fairgrounds was the site of the
legendary "Hosstraders Tailgate Swapfest" for fifteen years until the
event was moved in 1993. "Hosstraders" is just a memory now but
NEAR-Fest is continuing the "Grand Tradition" and returning to the
magnificent Deerfield Fairgrounds.

I never fully understood why Hosstraders was on Friday and Saturday rather
than on Saturday and Sunday, since lots and lots of people can't get out
of work on Friday.

So now, I guess my question is, why is NEARfest doing the same thing?

(Looking forward to it in any case...) :-)

But all the really good stuff is GONE by 10am Friday.
After that every is just walking around looking at
the same junk, over and over.

Ever been to Dayton? They run Friday-Sunday. Attendance is about 25% on
Sunday. My guess is everyone is anxious and raring to go Friday, and by
Sunday they are ready to go home and play with their toys. Attendance is
higher on Saturday than Friday, though.

That's a little different. People take their vacations and go to Dayton.
By Sunday it's time to head home to Phoenix or Minneapolis or Boston so
they can go to work on Monday.

NEARfest is (as Hosstraders largely was) a regional event. People might
drive 100 or 150 miles to go there, but few came from farther away than
that. Typically, relatively few will want to take a vacation day (if they
can even get one) to go there on Friday. Some will do it anyway, and
will join all the retired people and the self-employed people and the
people who don't work M-F 8-5, but all in all it would be a lot better for
everyone if they'd hold it on Saturday and Sunday.
