Hi ED, thanks for the response.... yes its a Mech. hum, I have never
put it on the air. I bought it from an estate and when I fired it up I
noticed the hum when I turned on the HV switch.... it has the solid
state recitifer replacements and 4 brand new 811's I doubt I ever use it
and I'de like to get my $250.00 back out of it...lol

Most rigs have some power transformer or choke hum. In fact, my HX-50 hums
louder as I crank up the RF drive -- and will probably "sing along" with voice
peaks on SSB.

I briefly owned one of those HK linears. The main PS choke had an internal
arc-over that pretty well drowned out any hum, and kept it from going on the
air. But it was nice to watch those four 811s light up. --Mike K.
