I have both the Sam's and Hallicrafters service information for my S-40A, and the dial cord diagram on each was wrong for my radio. I had to cross the dial cord at the bandspread cap to get the tuning knob, the bandspread dial and tuning knob to get into agreement. I say it was incorrect for my radio, because it looked like the diagram would have been correct if the bandspread dial were calibrated in the opposite direction. Anyway, I can be more specific if the original poster runs into the same problem. ============================================= I had to cross the cords in my S-40A too. The instructions in the manual were wrong for my radio. In my S-40A, the bandspread capacitor plates turn clockwise to increase capacity, in my S-40B the plates turn counterclockwise for increasing capacity. So the S-40A and S-40B are reversed! I don't have a S-40 so I don't know where it fits in. Just string the cord so the bandspread capacitor increases capacity as the dial moves from 0 towards 100. Best Regards, Ed Canyon Lake, TX |
