WiFi alternative to LPFM?

Is it possible to stream audio from a computer to a good wifi router and
broadcast that way to computers around you?

I was thinking of an earlier thread from someone who was looking for a way
to broadcast to his neighbors in a small town.

What would be involved and how many people could tune in the stream at a
time?
